Weekend Recap Aug 19th and Midweek Cup Schedule Aug 23rd

Midweek League Cup action but nothing on US TV.  Will most likely be a chance for Ki Sung Yueng to impress after getting his first PL action of the new season last weekend.

Lee Chung Yong -- Blackpool at 2:30 ET. Before season kicked off would have said this would be LCYs chance but now I imagine he will rest on the bench in favor of weekend PL where he's been doing well. Less impressive than last weekend, he nevertheless continued to play well on both ends but with less impact on offense. It was a poor showing from most of Crystal Palace and while they struggle to get their season started, LCY has been consistent and for now that should be enough for LCY to continue to get first XI chances. If Pardew goes full strength today to kick start the season, LCY could be called on today.

Ki Sung Yueng -- Peterborough United at 2:45 PM ET.  I thought he did well last weekend even if he wasn't the dominating player he showed in last showing last season or the form that won him Player of the Year two seasons ago. Clues to positive direction were passes that were forward and had risk, and decent work rate in defense and pressing. With Fer not being impactful, Ki could make a statement about a role in first XI today and I expect him to start.

Ji Dong Won -- He came off the bench but didn't get to see him though match was in hand by then.

Koo Ja Cheol -- A man of the match performance with a goal and good passing in the portion I saw. Playing deeper than with Weinzierl in a more pure CAM role, Koo adapted well with good ball distribution while staying involved in shooting opportunities. We will see if he keeps form against higher level competition.

Son Heung Min -- Given short time since return, no surprise to see him not make squad though with Janssen and Kane on pitch at same time, Son's role could be pushed down to 2nd offensive option. That seems linked to new rumors of Son moving to Wolfsburg. I'd be disappointed if he folded to competition pressure after one mixed season but that rumor does seem somewhat credible.

Kim Jin Su -- Another weekend not main squad and the question will be where he goes. The lack of rumors is worrisome.

Park Joo Ho -- Also didn't make the squad and unlike KJS, he does have transfer rumors so it may be a function of him wanting to stay even if third choice LB.
