Midweek Recap Jan 3rd and Weekend Preview Jan 7th

FA Cup starts this weekend so not too much to watch and not a large amount of action to recap either.

Saturday

Ki Sung Yueng -- Swansea go to Hull City (Cup) at 10 AM ET.  Not televised.  While Ki was lacking some of the classiness that has marked some of his best performances, I thought it was a really good showing. Not only was it a good reversion to the type of effort he showed at Sunderland in similar circumstances, but it was also a large evolution in Ki's game. Ki really took charge of the match in ways he had been hesitant to do before.  In particular he drove the ball forward on the dribble frequently, unafraid to risk the ball at times by taking on defenders. While his passing is great, sometimes when a team is struggling, you need your CMs to take charge in the buildup and adding a more confident dribble is a huge asset. In a similar vein, Ki took advantage of his fluid positional role by making good runs into dangerous areas.

As for this weekend, we will see... Swansea's new manager Clement will be wanting to get a good result ahead of tough fixtures but Ki also looked pretty fatigued at the end of the match, having played 90 twice in just a few days after having been out of action for so long. My gut says that Ki will be on the bench but we will see.

Lee Chung Yong -- Crystal Palace go to Bolton (Cup) at 10 AM ET.  Not televised.  Unused sub though he did warm up at various points. He will look to impress during FA cup this weekend and going back to Bolton should give him ample comfort to do so. Allardyce mentioned the lack of rotation so I think that LCY will get a chance to start.

Sunday

Son Heung Min -- Tottenham host Aston Villa (Cup) at 11 AM ET on Fox Sports 1. Tottenham had a huge win vs Chelsea but Son was just a time wasting sub. With many of the other first XI having played so many minutes, I suspect Son will start but we will see if it's as a CF or wider. Given cup, it's hard to predict.
