Weekend Preview Dec 27 and Midweek Recap Dec 22

Hoping everyone had a safe holidays. Trying to jog my memory a bit on these matches which felt a while ago and now most of these players enter winter break until 2021.

Sunday

Son Heung Min -- Tottenham go to Wolverhampton at 2:15 PM on NBCSN - Son had to come on at HT due to Bale picking up a knock. And Son should of had a goal when he burst through on the counter and finished nicely, but was wrongfully flagged offside. Without VAR, there was no means to correct such an egregious call. Fortunately for Tottenham's trophy desires, the goals came easily and Son didn't have to do too much after. The scoreline was flattering to Tottenham's showing... more reflective of how poor Stoke were. Son should start.

Recap

Lee Kang In -- LKI picked up a minor knock preventing him from being in the squad.

Cheon Seong Hoon -- Did make the squad but the team spending social media power on him was a tease as he did not come on.

Hwang Hee Chan -- Still out. Hoping for a better 2021.

Paik Seung Ho -- Paik's strong form continues with a goal and what sounded like another good showing. While the match ended up not being streamed so that I couldn't watch, glad to hear that he ends his first half on such a positive note.

Hwang Ui Jo -- Started up top but his position was fairly meaningless for the first half as Bordeaux couldn't keep the ball in the attacking half. He had a bit more opportunity playing on the left in the second half, but Bordeaux supporters will rue an epic miss by HUJ, missing a nearly completely open goal from two yards out off a free kick rebound. HUJ would score a nice one a few minutes later so some large positives as well. Hard to make judgements based on so few touches and his inability to be an aerial threat (could have helped more on the first goal conceded) contributed to that, and failures in those few touches really stick out a lot more.

Jeong Woo Yeong -- Started but really looked out of place in a disjointed Freiburg side. Overly content to play simple passes, and yet underhit a few of those and struggled to play the more difficult ones. He had a couple decent moments when Freiburg started to link some passes but he needs to find a way to impact the match when things aren't going well. Was subbed off for Kwon at 55.

Kwon Chang Hoon -- Kwon on the other hand was great. Some beautiful passes and dribbles immediately created a flowing offense for Freiburg. Also was strong in the air and even had a good press that almost created a goal. His defending is still quite suspect but Kwon showed a lot of class to end the season and hopefully Streich sees how Kwon can be the missing ingredient in an otherwise static attack.

Ji Dong Won -- Couldn't watch what would turn out to be an extended sub due to extra time. Came on at 80 but Mainz would go out on penalties. Probably for the best that the club doesn't have the distraction given their relegation risk, but we'll see what the changes at sporting director mean for Mainz.

Yun Il Lok -- Had a start to finish off the season and played a hair over 70 minutes.
