Weekend Recap Aug 26th

Transfer window closing so perhaps we will get some clarity on the futures of these players soon.  It is international week and already pics of Son Heung Min arriving for NT duty would seem to preclude a move... but of course last season we had Koo Ja Cheol move despite that so nothing is set in stone.

With the window closing + international break, hopefully get around to writing a season preview and also another piece (written in my head only right now sadly).

Son Heung Min -- An unused sub but Pochettino did include him in the same bucket as Lamela and Eriksen so not completely out of Pochettino's plans for now.  Tottenham will need more quality in depth given CL so Son will need to impress with the second XI.

Ji Dong Won -- Came on as a late sub and had some nice crosses but his impact wasn't very strong as Augsburg was missing some spark by then.

Koo Ja Cheol -- Koo was scrappy but a bit sloppy, maybe struggling a bit to keep his energy up in the first league match on a very hot day.  At times he was pushed pretty far forward as second or even leading forward even if he spent most of the match in the middle.

Park Joo Ho -- An unused sub and no imminent change unless there's potential attrition with CL or a move.

Lee Chung Yong -- A very good sub performance.  Pardew switched to a 4-4-2 in an effort to get two forwards on the pitch and as a result, LCY lost his spot in the starting XI.  Crystal Palace were a mess though, and soon Pardew re-arranged the team back to 4-2-3-1 that they had been preparing this summer with but LCY didn't come on until a bit later in the second half when they had found some better success with the tactical shift.  LCY provided some creative spark and really the only negative to his day was some misses from close range which weren't sitters but still probably should have resulted in at least one goal.  Hopefully LCY keeps going on with this quality and forces Pardew to include LCY's creativity in his XI.

Ki Sung Yueng -- Swansea was a disaster most of the match and were lucky to be only down by two.  Ki came on at an hour but instead of the inconsistent Fer, he came on for Sigurdsson who had been dangerous but too often invisible. He struggled again playing more advanced role but it says how poorly Swansea were playing that it was still a positive impact to have some decent build up from Ki. He was hustling on defense too later as his role shifted deeper but we will see if Guidolin sees his effort vs being outclassed for pace in some bad situations due to team defense failings.

Kim Jin Su -- Was sick and didn't make the squad.  He returned to training today so we'll see what happens.  Ochs started at LB and cost Hoffenheim two points, giving way too much space for both goals.  And yet KJS still doesn't get a look, and Toljan should be back in the squad soon as well.  Not looking good right now for him.
