Kind of a meh weekend.
Tuesday
Son Heung Min -- Tottenham host Man City in CL at 3PM on TNT -- Son featured in prematch press conference and I'd expect him to start regardless.
Thursday
Lee Kang In -- Valencia go to Villarreal in EL at 3PM on B/R Live -- I doubt LKI will make the squad or play if he does after another weekend not in squad.
Recap
Ki Sung Yueng -- Ki got a start and perhaps we had some insight why when he was subbed off with 15 minutes to go as Shelvey was pretty immobile. And Ki also showed what he brings vs. Newcastle last weekend with his 100% pass rate helping Newcastle retain large share of possession. He had a few really good moments too, setting up a few attacks in the first half. And yet they felt a bit too few when Newcastle needed someone to control the match in the attacking half and Ki too frequently didn't take enough chances to do so. A decent showing, but maybe short of what they needed.
Kwon Chang Hoon -- Came on as a last second sub, and the win means less likely to start next weekend too.
Suk Hyun Jun -- Unused sub but he did make the squad.
Ji Dong Won -- What a mess as Baum continuously tinkered with the shape and tactics, forcing Ji to switch flanks, even play LCM, and so on. And that uncertainty caused their fatigued backline to be completely out of sorts, routinely providing Hoffenheim 3 v 1s. Despite that Augsburg were only down by one, and Ji, who had been playing decently despite all the shuffles, had the best chance to level when received the ball on the edge of the box with tons of space. Unfortunately, Ji got a bit fancy and tried to dribble a bit more and the opportunity was lost as the defender recovered and broke up the attack. Very disappointing moment that seems a bit unfair relative to his other contributions but in a relegation battle, those rare moments have a large importance.
Koo Ja Cheol -- Koo on the other hand showed the disorganization in Augsburg's scheme and he looked wild and reckless with his positioning and provided little in the buildup and attack. A really poor showing.
