Weekend Recap Apr 12 and Midweek Preview Apr 17

Paik Seung Ho returned to the matchday squad in a likely short-term patch so we'll see how long it lasts but I'll temporarily re-add him to roster.

Wednesday

Son Heung Min -- Came on for final few minutes as he was rested against the already relegated Huddersfield. Fortunately Tottenham didn't need any heroics and Son helped to further ensure that, first by stretching the defense for Lucas' second, then directly by providing a very good throughball for Lucas to get his hat trick. Son was rested for this CL match and he should start though we'll see if out wide or up top. There should be chances to get behind Man City given the scoreline so let's hope he does well with those.

Thursday

Lee Kang In -- The scoreline was big enough and coincidental to LKI being in squad that he got a decent amount of minutes where reports were that he was tidy and even had a shot. Hopefully a sign of bigger role in future, but I feel like it has to be lower stakes and second leg in Europa League isn't that so I expect him to be bench at best and maybe not in squad if regular squad players return.

Recap

Kwon Chang Hoon -- Came on at 85' in a disappointment given the importance of the match with opponents being directly above them. A draw does put them in relegation playoff spot but KCHs future at Dijon doesn't look very good.

Ki Sung Yueng -- Started and played over 80 minutes before being subbed for fresh defensive legs. Ki did a good job in distributing and even showed quite a bit of hustle in defense in a big win that more or less assures that Newcastle will survive. He wasn't great, particularly not really pushing the attack, but he was good enough. With safety in hand, we'll see how Rafa uses the DM/CM pairs going forward, with possible/probable exits for Hayden/Diame/Shelvey for varying reasons, and how much he wants to go up the table or test midfield combinations for next season.

Suk Hyun Jun -- He came on surprisingly early at 65. I didn't get to watch it however, but at least signs of getting minutes even if the goals haven't reappeared yet.

Ji Dong Won -- Picked up a knock in training. No word on when he'll return but with his replacement (Richter) scoring a brace, he might need to wait to start when he returns.

Koo Ja Cheol -- Schmidt had a tactical surprise opting for a 4-1-4-1 in his first match. While the reduction in defensive players did nothing to help their defense, it did allow Augsburg to hit back on the break much more effectively than under Baum where ten men were frequently defending. A huge win that buys them a large cushion over the drop zone. Koo was positioned as part of the CAM pair, though Koo did occasionally drop into a CM role at times. Luck wasn't on Koo's side as he had a few chances break poorly for him, but he did a good job in his role, assisting one goal and creating danger on the break. There still was a lot of unnecessary risk-taking with his play but in this match, he was unpunished.

Paik Seung Ho -- Warmed the bench for depth.
