Midweek Preview Dec 22 and Weekend Recap Dec 19

Nearing winter break. Short turnaround here. Cup makes lineups a bit tricky to predict so grain of salt time.

Lee Kang In-- Came on with a few minutes to go but Valencia looked happy with a draw so LKI only featured once when getting fouled from behind when trying to clear the ball.  Wish he would defend more vigorously even if in a nominally attacking midfield role. I expect a bench role.

Cheon Seong Hoon-- Left out of squad this weekend so low expectations here but can hope given a cup match.

Hwang Hee Chan-- Still out with COVID recovery.

Paik Seung Ho-- Again had an assist and played 80 though apparently less dominating than before. Still sounding good. Should start.

Son Heung Min-- Not sure what he can do with a non existent buildup. Chances were few and had a couple decent touches but more or less invisible with Tottenham on their backheels most of the match. Thought he looked to pass too much. Probably will be in the bench but Jose will want to get things going right and keep a trophy hunt alive.

Hwang Ui Jo-- Started and played 67. Had a goal called off for offside and sounded industrious if not productive. Leaning to a start but not certain.

Kwon Chang Hoon-- Was warming up but didn’t get on. Nearing a return and a cup match seems a decent chance to do so though I expect off the bench.

Jeong Woo Yeong-- Freiburg scored eight before he came on so his situation changed but he showed some improved confidence and was moving with and without the ball well. He had a great chance to score off a strong dribble but it was well saved. Jeong also setup his teammates well with some good passing. A strong showing and we will see if the cup is a chance to prove himself with a larger role, maybe even a start.

Ji Dong Won-- Finally made the pitch again win five to go. Things started of well with a good touch in traffic to start a decent attack, but Mainz fell apart and didn’t have any attack and conceded a late goal. Ji himself had some good air battles and was hustling but nobody to work with. Maybe a half chance of starting but with manager’s job in jeopardy, likely only off the bench for scraps.

Yun Il Lok-- Came on a a sub but was a choppy match without many chances for Yun. His passes were good enough given limited risk. Likely continue his bench role.

Lee Jae Sung-- Played up top from reports and Kiel stay on their positive run. Maybe too good as LJS seems less likely to move this winter window. I don’t think Kiel would let their top man go with BL a possibility, at least at the prices LJS would command.

Choi Kyoung Rok-- Out til leg muscle injury.
