Preview Dec 14 and Recap Dec 9

Nearing winter break for some, and the hectic parts of the season for others.

I've removed the Bundesliga 2 players from the list as it seems ESPN has given up on showing all but a smattering of BL2 matches from streaming. If things change on that front, I'll add them back. But it does feel disingenuous to provide commentary on players that I can't see with my eyes. I'll still be re-posting relevant news on the players on the main Twitter feed so I'm not abandoning them to my secondary feed in that service.

Lee Jae Sung-- Hard for me to judge as ESPN feed had a lot of issues and the replay isn't available due to that. In what I saw, it looked just not to be his day with a lot of good ideas ruined by execution that was slightly off. Maybe a hard adjustment up to the quality of Bayern and a bit difficult to judge given the more limited opportunities Mainz had going forward. Suspect that he'll start.

Jeong Woo Yeong-- Came off the bench but Hoffenheim were in control of play and Jeong didn't get to do much. With short turnaround, maybe a more decent chance to start but I think he'll have to show more as a sub right now.

Hwang Hee Chan-- With Jimenez out, Lage will have to rejigger his front line, and one would suspect that a strong probability is putting Hwang Hee Chan back into the starting XI. On the weekend, it was difficult vs. Man City for obvious reasons when he came on for Traore as Lage opted for a more defensive setup. Hwang had a few decent runs and fought hard but hard to take away too many conclusions on such isolated moments.

Lee Kang In-- The first half was very choppy with heavy wind causing problems with the opposition GK struggling to even punt the ball. As a result, LKI was fairly limited then but really started to take control in the second half, really helping Mallorca transition into attack and creating some danger of his own both directly and via set pieces. On the one hand LKI is showing greater strength to hold up against defenders this season but on the other, he's still spending a bit too long on the ball. Given a cup match, I think he gets rested.

Son Heung Min-- A decent chance of a match but not clear which players are available. Should start if fit and healthy.

Hwang Ui Jo-- Its really hard to judge Hwang Ui Jo in this side given the intense mediocrity of the side but HUJ continues to give Bordeaux a chance at survival with goals, and did so again this weekend heading a beautiful cross into the goal. Some of Bordeaux' problems are HUJ problems: he's not scaring defenders with pace, beating them with the dribble, or facilitating the rest of the Bordeaux attack with quality hold up play. But effort and goals are worth a lot in a relegation scrap and to score on very few opportunities has pushed Bordeaux out of the relegation zone for now.

Suk Hyun Jun-- Came on as a sub and while he provided some physicality up front, his lack of explosiveness in terms of pace or aerial leap can be limiting though Troyes in general wasn't playing well. Hopefully gets going in final stretch as its been a tough fall.
