Weekend Recap

Weekend recap time.  Not a great weekend for most of the players.

Hong Jeong Ho -- HJH played the full 90 in a loss to Hertha Berlin where Augsburg were rarely challenged defensively.  HJH had a real good header off a corner that was barely deflected onto the woodwork which was probably Augsburg's best opportunity to score.

Ji Dong Won -- Despite the continued weakness of the Augsburg attack, Ji was an unused sub again.

Son Heung Min -- In a pretty mediocre showing, Son really had a hard time integrating into the flow of the match and made a number of poor decisions, including passing the ball off in the box when he had space to turn and shoot.  It wasn't all bad as his work helped start the first goal, but Schmidt has to start thinking about his starting XI this week with Brandt scoring a very nice goal and Mehmedi doing better as well.

Ryu Seung Woo -- Was not in the squad.  Hopefully this means a loan is close.

Kim Jin Su -- He looked pretty restrained for much of the match as Hoffenheim fought to preserve their initial lead and with a dangerous Bellarabi on the other side.  And while KJS did ok for pace vs the speedy Bellarabi, he really struggled to contain him, getting beaten badly a number of times.  While not the first defender to have this problem, it was not the best timing given the competition for starting LB spot.

Koo Ja Cheol -- Koo came on as a sub with about 20 minutes to go and while he wasn't great, he did inject some fight into what had been a listless Mainz performance.  As he was the first sub on, and given the uptick in team, hopefully a sign that he'll get some more chances from the start.

Park Joo Ho -- A surprise spot on the bench for PJH and it looked at times like Mainz could have used him on both ends of the pitch.

Ki Sung Yueng -- Despite his improvement, Monk decided to play on the safe side instead of risking a re-aggravation of this injury.  Swansea excelled without him which both affords Ki time to recover but also might make an immediate return to starting XI in doubt.

Yun Suk Young -- Still out with injury.

Lee Chung Yong -- Very disappointing from Lee Chung Yong who really didn't take advantage of a wonderful opportunity, both in general and also in the match where he took too much time when he had room in the box, and ended up losing the ball without getting a shot on.  He also had the ball dispossessed dangerously in midfield and had a few passes barely escape interception as well.  With competition getting healthier, it was not a good time to put in such a performance.

Suk Hyun Jun -- He played the full 90 in a draw to open the season.
