Midweek Recap

Totally forgot to do this.  At least you have something to read with so little Saturday football.

Yun Suk Young - Was held out as it appears he still has a couple weeks to recover.  Given that he was playing so many reserve matches, he either had a setback or maybe was off the pace a bit.  We'll find out in October.

Park Joo Ho - The hero of one Europa match started off quite slowly in his Dortmund debut.  He started off in the midfield (at times part of a double six, others as left in midfield 3) and while tidy and hardworking, he struggled to link fluidly with his teammates.  Then again it was his first match action with BVB and in addition, Dortmund struggled for cohesiveness as a team.  But at the end of the first half, he found himself deep on the left, shielded his defender well, and lofted a perfect cross for the assist.

In the second half, he was shifted back to his natural LB, and while he visibly struggled with cramps at time, he looked a lot better in that role at least on offensive end, and it paid off at the end as he dove and headed in the winning goal in the final minutes of the match.  An excellent start to his Dortmund career and a strong claim to at least get more opportunities going forward.

Son Heung Min - The other hero of Thursday and also in a debut of his own (first at White Hart Lane), Son also was in his secondary position, playing as a lone forward as Tottenham looked disjointed and was down by one in the first half.  But Son found himself inexplicably uncovered both before and during a corner kick and he deftly knocked it into the goal for his first goal for Tottenham.  And just minutes later, he linked up with Alli, feeding a nice pass which Alli worked well back to Son which Son slammed into the net for a brace.  Much better than his first performance, and hopefully a confidence builder ahead of Sunday.

Ji Dong Won - Got his Europa debut and started on the left wing.  Ji looked strong and confident and was incredibly unlucky to have a header stopped by a miraculous save.  He was particularly good at working the entire left on both ends of the pitch, providing needed width on his side and defensive effort in the back.  He eventually was moved to the CF spot and still offered decent output despite visibly tiring in his most extensive minutes in a long time.

Koo Ja Cheol - The most disappointing of the Europa performances, Koo started off decently, but quickly looked tired and flat.  He'll have to get used to the twice a week load and hope for better stuff this weekend.

Hong Jeong Ho - Was left out of the squad with his muscle injury.  We'll see where he's at for Sunday.
