Weekend Preview Nov 23 and Recap Nov 8

Wow. Didn't expect Pochettino era to end quite that quickly. Sounded like a mediocre international break, and I'm glad I don't have to think about it for a while. It's Thanksgiving soon, so we'll see if I blog from my beach vacation or watch CL midweek live or on tape.

Son Heung Min-- Was going to write about his match but was halfway through watch the match when the news about Pochettino getting sacked broke. Given I knew about the mediocre outcome and the bleh showing by the squad, even if Son was a relatively bright spot in half I saw, I'll devote this small space to how this might work out for Son. I think of any discontent from the players in the rumors, it's hard to think Son shared those as the system worked for him, he was one of few to produce consistently, and I think working hard comes naturally to Son.

A switch to Mourinho seems that it can address the weakspots in Tottenham's defense, and playing a bit more independently in attack suits Son more than some of his teammates. But if CL is too far, there's friction with existing stars, and Mourinho spends as usual in the next couple windows, maybe Son will start thinking about a move for the end of his peak window. But where can he go where he'd fit in and not sit on the bench? I'm not sold on any destination that fits that where he might hope to get lucky as he did with Tottenham which was looking on the descent when he joined, but was able to bounce back.

Jeong Woo Yeong-- A decent chance to make the bench unlike last match, with Grifo suspended and Waldschmidt out through the end of the year. Maybe his bench chance to play but he's still pretty deep on depth chart I imagine.

Kwon Chang Hoon-- As usual, better chances for JWY are disproportionately better for KCH. Given international travel, I don't think he'll start but maybe an earlier chance especially if they need goals. As for his previous showing

Lee Kang In-- Valencia seems set on ensuring LKI gets minutes as he came on again a bit late into the match. Unfortunately, bad news accompanied where a former player (or commentator, forgot which) criticized him for not being visible in the group applauding the fans. The criticism was apparently incorrect and apologized for but it seems a continuing trend where off-pitch seems louder than what's on the pitch. Hopefully LKI makes these minutes off the bench count sooner or later but until then, I expect his current role as late offensive sub to continue.

Suk Hyun Jun-- He actually came on and for once, I got a chance to watch. That said, it was a frustrating watch as Suk looked a bit lost in an offense that was far from organized. He was obviously trying hard, and I didn't watch before he came on, so not sure if he was an up/downgrade. I expect him to be on the bench.

Hwang Ui Jo-- Apparently not a good showing as he was the first one subbed off. He should get another start if he's fresh on his return.

Ji Dong Won-- Finally a sign of Ji as he returned to outdoor training but I didn't seem him in team training yet so still a bit ways to go. With a new manager, Ji will have to restart the integration process but Mainz do need attackers so hopefully Ji is close to a full recovery.

Ki Sung Yueng-- Not on squad for last match and unlikely for this weekend.
