Weekend Recap Aug 26

Much less to recap than anticipated with a few moves resulting in a lot of non activity. International break comes in here so a bit of time to see how the various moves play out for everyone.

Moves, no recap

Lee Kang In -- Despite some rumors of waffling between Mallorca and Wolverhampton, LKI signed on with Mallorca. Hopefully a fresh start gives him the minutes he needs to hit his peaks more regularly away from the chaos of Valencia.

Hwang Hee Chan -- This move had popped up previously back in the Salzburg days but I was surprised to see Hwang leave Leipzig despite his old coach now in charge, departure of Sorloth and Champions League football. He goes on a loan with an option to buy to a side that matches well with Hwang's physical attributes of pace and power... and similar shortcomings in terms of scoring. I'm unclear how this improves Hwang's immediate minutes but maybe he just wanted a fresh start.

Recap

Son Heung Min -- Son didn't have to do much in the Conference League playoffs with Tottenham starting to cruise when he came off the bench, but Son came through in a difficult match in an accidental fashion. Son lined up for a free kick at a fair distance and his cross was dangerous enough to evade everyone... including the GK! Son worked hard otherwise, with some good runs even if Tottenham struggled when Watford packed the box. It wasn't a pretty match and some worrisome trends for Nuno, but for the time being, Tottenham are at the top of the table after the headache of playoffs out of the way.

Choi Kyoung Rok -- Played 80 in a loss.

Jeong Woo Yeong -- Streich was rewarded for keeping Jeong in the lineup as Jeong scored twice early on a strong showing. Both goals were great: the first a precise header into the corner and the latter a beautiful blast on the half-volley. It wasn't all perfect as Jeong was a bit lax covering the cross on one Stuttgart goal and still had a few too many lost passes, but Jeong's talents stood out brightly. Now if he can keep momentum going across international breaks which Streich has never been keen on...

Lee Jae Sung -- Came on as a sub and didn't need to do much as Mainz were far ahead. You could see his desire to score to re-earn a spot in the starting XI. It seems that there will be a bit of tinkering to get a lineup that productive every week so he may have to be patient.

Hwang Ui Jo -- Was rumored to go everywhere from Marseille, to Sporting to Dynamo Moscow, and the last is still in play given a few days left in that window. That said, HUJ already said no and the need for Bordeaux would be purely financial as they could not fill his quota spot. It may have been tempting as it could be last big contract in Europe at his age. Hwang played 90 in a blowout loss.

Suk Hyun Jun -- Still out injured.

Park Kyu Hyun -- Played for reserves as I assume he looks to get match minutes rather than sit on the bench. He also played in a friendly that I'm watching now. He's not been needed much but seems similar to my previous thoughts: good on the ball and strong though a bit weird positioning wise (often quite narrow).
